Glam in a cold climate.

I love love love Christmas and all this snowy weather is just making me beyond excited for the big day, in fact this weekend is one of the biggest of the year for festive partying.  But with temperatures set to plunge to silly degrees below in the UK how can we keep the chill from nipping at our peep toes!!!

Well the first answer is pretty simple. Don’t wear peep toes. One of the first style lessons I tell anyone is dress for the season.  There is nothing more ridiculous than the sight of girls dressed for a night in St Tropez when they are actually heading out in South Kensington.  Warm doesn’t need to mean frumpy. A classic pair of courts will keep your tootsies warm, especially when paired with a cosy pair of tights.

And tights are big news this season, from Wolford to Primark, hosiery is getting glam.  I love love love these classic pin dot tights from Accessorize, http://www.accessorize.com/all-intimates/scattered-spot-french-heel-sheer-tights/invt/89619803/?bklist=icat,4,shop,intimates,intimateshosiery,  but with tights you can be as daring as you feel like, as long as you keep the rest of your outfit simple. And it your dress or skirt is a bit more bling then a classic black opaque is your best friend in leg wear. Girls often over look the natural tan tight in favour of bare legs these days. Fine if it is a cab to club event in September, but if you are venturing out on public transport this weekend, then trust me, blue legs and goose bumps are not a good party look. Invest in a good quality pair of natural tights. As long as you NEVER wear them with open shoes, or opt for anything with too much sheen, then your pins will look top notch and show of your shoes and skirt perfectly.

Accessories are the best bit of being a girl I think, and in the chocolate box of styles we have to pick from, I think winter hats, gloves and scarves are my favourite. The hat is having a major revival this year. Think cashmere berets for a walk in the park, or a full-on Russian (faux) fur number for a glamorous evening. Hat hair isn’t ideal but a quick spritz of hair spray should perk up your locks when you arrive at the venue, and remember, shivering NEVER makes for a fabulous entrance.

So you are all dressed up and about to head out the door, don’t fall at the final hurdle. The coat you chose can make or break an outfit. If your budget dictates that you have a hard-working mutli-tasker of a coat for work and play, then invest in a classic wool trench. This will look chic over a suit for work and stylish when cinched in at the waste for evenings. I would avoid the standard black, opt for navy, dark grey, or camel if you don’t mind the dry cleaning bills. One of my favourite ever items is my Navy wool trench from Gant. It is completing its 5th winter this year and has never let me down.

Evening coats are a luxury but can be a wonderful investment and really set off a party look. This season I am loving the faux furs on offer. They are, by nature a little outrageous and designed to get you noticed. But girls it is party season so cosy up in a fluffy number and get noticed!

Warm and glam and ready for the party…the only accessories you could possibly need now is a nice strong man to stop you slipping on the ice, or a fabulous group of friends to pick you if you do teeter off those stunning heels.

Happy partying!!
